Discover Maldives with Dilan’s yacht tours
A yacht is known as a ‘liveaboard’ in Asia. 100 ft long and 30 ft wide,
with an average number of 4 to 15 cabins, they can provide a different
and exciting holiday. Travel professional Dilan Jay is now offering
yacht tours in Maldives to those travellers who want to enjoy, explore
and experience the Asian surf breaks, dive sites and the Asian ‘liveaboards’.
His new tour is geared to provide the best information available on
Asian surf breaks and scuba diving and cruising. Whether you are into
diving, surfing, game fishing or just cruising, a liveaboard is a dream
holiday. South East Asia and the Indian Ocean are the world’s hotspot of
marine biodiversity and therefore the most ideal region for liveaboards.
Few places enjoy richer waters or such an abundance of marine life. The
‘liveaboard’ industry in this region has proliferated immensely in the
last couple of years with the diverse options the region offers - from
cruising along the Maldive Islands with its white sandy beaches and
turquoise lagoons to surfing and diving.
Maldives Welcomes UN Security Council Resolution Imposing Libya No Fly

community’s intervention will protect the Libyan people and help bring
about Colonel Gaddafi and his regime’s speedy removal from power.
Earlier this week, the Maldives called on the international community to
take robust action, including the imposing of a no-fly zone, in order to
protect the people of Libya.

Radioactive Releases in Japan Could Last Months, Experts Say
As the scale of Japan’s nuclear crisis begins to come to light, experts
in Japan and the United States say the country is now facing a cascade
of accumulating problems that suggest that radioactive releases of steam
from the crippled plants could go on for weeks or even months.
The emergency flooding of two stricken reactors with seawater and the
resulting steam releases are a desperate step intended to avoid a much
bigger problem: a full meltdown of the nuclear cores in two reactors at
the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station. On Monday, an explosion
blew the roof off the second reactor, not damaging the core, officials
said, but presumably leaking more radiation.

Flight attendants call for ban on Saudi stopovers
The union for Cathay Pacific flight attendants has urged the airline to

said the airline was "taking this very seriously and are monitoring the
situation closely to ensure that all crew are safe and well taken care
of”. The hotel said it has responded to the complaints by enhancing
security and adding closed-circuit television inside lifts.

Burma implicated in major oil fraud
An investigation in the Maldives has implicated the Burmese military and

after the Maldivian government in March last year hired a UK-based
auditing firm called Grant Thornton to investigate the corruptive
practices of former president and autocrat Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, who
left office in 2008. The audit unearthed fudged accounts that showed
that the unit prices of barrels of oil differed in invoices for
different accounts, with one irregularity amounting to over $US5
million. A Maldivian government official who asked to remain anonymous
told DVB that the total scale of the fraud was more than half the
country’s GDP.

IMF Executive Board Concludes 2010 Article IV Consultation with Maldives
Expansionary fiscal policies in Maldives after the 2004 tsunami led to
severe fiscal and external imbalances, leaving the economy vulnerable.
The situation deteriorated markedly in 2008–09, as the decline in
tourism which followed the global economic crisis hit the Maldivian
economy hard, aggravated the imbalances, and pushed the country into
recession. In response, the authorities adopted an ambitious adjustment
program supported by IMF financing. The program focused on a strong
fiscal adjustment, monetary tightening and a strengthening of the
financial sector. After contracting by 2¼ percent in 2009, the economy
rebounded strongly in 2010, on the back of a sharp recovery in tourism
inflows. Real GDP growth is estimated at 4¾ percent in 2010. Inflation
continues to reflect mainly international commodity price movements,
increasing since mid-2009 on a year-on-year basis, and is expected to
average 5 percent in 2010. The current account deficit is projected to
have widened to about 32¼ percent of GDP in 2010, as the economic
recovery and higher commodity prices have pushed up imports, offsetting
the tourism rebound.

keep it in the hope of returning to live in Perth one day. The
revelation that the so-called Taj-Mahal-on-the-Swan may be completed is
sure to upset neighbours, who have complained that the Indian-inspired

family moved to India at the same time receivers were appointed to
Burrup Fertilisers. Mr Oswal said the property could be left as a
construction site for his two daughters, Vasundhara and Riddhi, to
eventually complete. "Yes, we might complete it, or we might just leave
it as is right now, and decide, let the children complete it when they
grow up," Mr Oswal said

Coast Guard. The Maldives islands in the Indian Ocean are located in a

illegal trafficking and illegal fishing. Such bilateral trainings
enhance maritime security and stability. On top of the training, Higgins
hosted 47 women serving in various branches of Maldivian government and
law enforcement on board the ship. More than 25 female crew members from
Higgins volunteered to take part in the open discussion, lunch, and to
lead tours of the ship.
