Decapitating the baby is a big transgression and a violation of human rights-Gasim
Leader of the opposition Jumhooree Party, Gasim Ibrahim has said that the recent decapitation of a baby during labour performed by the medical staff of IGMH to save the mother is a violation of human rights and a big transgression.
Jumhooree Party’s leader and Mamigili MP Gasim Ibrahim told Miadhu Daily that the mother had been admitted to IGMH after doctors in her island advised the mother to do so given the size of the baby. He also said that the mother has been admitted to IGMH for 18 days.
Gasim expressed his concern of this medical felony and said he condemns this act in the strongest terms.
Gasim said that the hospital authorities should take the full responsibility of this grave crime and violation of the human rights. He said that given that it was previously understood the baby was large and the mother had been admitted to hospital for 18 days, there is no reason that the medical staff of IGMH should deviate from the standard medical care.
The local philanthropist Gasim said that he has not ever seen such a macabre case of disregard and negligence that caused such a bizarre and tragic scene ever in life.
Meanwhile, Male’ Health Services Corporation Limited said in a press release that medical staff were forced to decapitate a baby during labour to save the mother. They said that such cases rarely occur and are unexpected.
The statement also said that the mother was taken to the operation theatre for a caesarean section after several failed attempts to facilitate the delivery of the baby, as the shoulder of the infant could not pass through after the delivery of the head.
They said that the hospital decapitate the baby’s head on the permission of the family, in order to save the life of the mother as the caesarean section turned out to be unsuccessful.
Miadhu Daily was informed by sources that the mother has been psychologically affected by the incident and gone psychotic.
