ICM organize a ‘Blood Donation Camp’


India Club Maldives (ICM) has organized a ‘Blood Donation Camp’ on Feb 25, 2011 (Friday) at the National Thalassemia Centre (NTC), in Male’.

Some 42.2 liters of blood was collected from 100 voluntary donors of different nationalities including Indians, Maldivians, Sri Lankans, Bangladeshis, Nepali, Palestinian donated blood. The club noted that this was its fifth initiative which has received an overwhelming support and appreciation from all sections of the public.

Speaking on the occasion, the Acting High Commissioner of India, G. Narayanaswamy noted that noble events like blood donation camp and medical camp organized by the India Club has much greater value than other cultural activities it has conducted.  Contributions from all nationalities from the SAARC countries and beyond highlight the fact that India Club is more multinational than Indian. He envisaged a more regular calendar based events for the future. Mr. Narayanaswamy commended the efforts of the India Club and its members for conducting such events. He had a special word for Dr. J.T. Rao of ADK hospital who has been the contact person for blood camps and medical camps conducted by India Club in Maldives. He expressed appreciation of the support and encouragement extended by the Maldivian government including Mohamed Zubair, Managing Director of Male Health services Corporation (MHSC) and Dr. Farzana of NTC.

Declaring the blood donation camp open, Mohamed Zubair, MD, MHSC highlighted the continued relations between India and Maldives. He also acknowledged the assistance being rendered by India for the forth coming SAARC summit in Maldives.

Dr. Farzana of National Thalassemia Centre (NTC) appreciated the contribution made by India club for the fifth time in the Centre and said it would benefit the patients immensely.

Opening the camp, Chairman of India Club and CEO of State Bank of India Mr. Vijay Jasuja appreciated the enthusiasm of the Executive Committee and other members of the India Club in taking up such a noble cause and expressed his confidence that the Club would undertake many more such social and humanitarian programs, which would enhance the welfare of the people including those living in the various islands and atolls of the Maldives.

Welcoming the participants and donors for the Camp, India Club Executive Member, Mr. Sudhakar emphasized the objective of the camp of providing blood to the Thalassemia patients in NTC. Executive Member Mr. Shanker Kotha thanked all those who were associated with the camp including the donors, sponsors, volunteers and NTC doctors and staff.
