Jordan - a leader in Arab region in combating corruption
Jordan (Amman) - International experts have
hailed Jordan as a leader in the region in combating corruption through a
legislation package to deter abuse of office in public institutions.
The praise came from a team of anti-corruption experts from the Maldives Islands
and Nigeria in addition to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC)
Secretariat, that paid a three-day visit to the Kingdom in implementation of a
decision by the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations
Convention against Corruption During a meeting with the President and members of
the Anti-Corruption Commission, the team hailed the body's role in creating a
world-class legislative environment in the fight against corruption.
During visits to the Judicial Council, the Ministry of Justice, the Public
Security Department and the Central Bank of Jordan's Anti-Money Laundering Unit,
the team checked first-hand on Jordan's anti-corruption effort, particularly its
commitment to the U.N. convention.
Jordanian anti-corruption pundits had joined in an international assessment of
Greece's and Indonesia's compliance with the U.N. Convention. (Petra)
