Preparations underway to commence the works of NGIS
A meeting was held at the Ministry of
Housing and Environment yesterday to discuss the National Geographic Information
System (NGIS) that is being designed and produced under the Maldives
Environmental Management Project (MEMP). Under discussion were the installation
of the ArcGIS server software for the system and the geo-database model that is
to be set up using the NGIS.
The meeting was attended by representatives from the Department of National
Planning, Marine Research Centre, Environmental Protection Agency, the Ministry
of Housing and Environment and from some other projects within the government
that will be making use of the system in the future. Among the topics discussed
were the data that was to be used in the NGIS and the installation of the ArcGIS
software and the subsequent short training session. Additionally, there was a
demonstration of the database model that has already been developed, and the
terms of reference for the geo-database specialist and the GIS user training
were finalized.
