Edelweiss Air Airbus A330-200 (HB-IQZ) with flower livery.
At first glance I was not sure if it was a flower or some odd nuclear atom on their plane. Either way, I kind of liked it. When taking a closer look at the Edelweiss Air, it became quite clear this was a flower. The airline is named after the unofficial state flower — the Edelweiss. The airline was founded in 1995 with a single MD-83. In the late 90′s they introduced Airbus A320′s and Airbus A330′s for longhaul flights. The airline flies from Switzerland to destinations in the Mediterranean, the Canary Islands, the Caribbean and the Maldives. They also fly to locations in Africa, the US, Asia and Europe. In 2008 the airline was bought out by Swiss International Airlines, which was bought by Lufthansa in 2005. Even though Edelweiss is owned by Lufthansa, it is still independently operated. They currently have no aircraft on order, but did just take delivery of their first Airbus A330-300 on January 16, 2011.

Maldives: Get away from the kids
It sounds like a dream holiday. But would Adam Buxton's sceptical wife Sarah agree to renew their marriage vows in the Maldives? I've got some exciting news," I announce as my wife loads the children's supper plates into the dishwasher. "I've been asked to write a travel article for the Guardian. They're going to arrange for you and me to spend a week in a luxury resort in the Maldives. It's the holiday of a lifetime!" All day I've been imagining Sarah jumping up and throwing her arms around me at this point. Perhaps we'll twirl around the kitchen. Instead, she turns back to the dishwasher and says, "Don't take this the wrong way, but why would they ask you?" "I don't know, Adam and Joe stuff, maybe my hilarious YouTube videos?" I offer, struggling to take it the right way. "Look, it doesn't matter why they asked me, aren't you excited?"

The new Chinese tourist
A structural change is happening in the way Chinese travel, according to trends research revealed by Chinese Outbound Tourism Express. The products of a packaged tour with a busy schedule in multiple destinations are being replaced by all-directional development such as in-depth and theme tours. “More and more Chinese tourists see outbound travel as a chance to broaden horizons, and experience foreign cultures,” noted the Tourism Express “Therefore, they have higher demand for the content and patterns of travel. Seen from the sales of tour operators, half of the outbound tourism market has now been taken over by FIT tours. “This shows that tourists are increasingly pursuing personalised tour experiences.” A specialist from travel company CYTS said," Tourists have a clear purpose, and focus more on quality of service and brand.  “For instance, we have a tourist who had been to the Maldives before; the reason he chooses to go there a second time is just because he is fond of a hotel on the island.” Shi Xin, who works in marketing at China International Travel Service, said Chinese tourists nowadays not only want to go sightseeing but also experience the local culture and cuisine. "Winter is the peak season for travelling to Australia and New Zealand, and our tour products to the two destinations were the first to sell out," Shi added.

Some Work, All Play: Become a Crewmember for the Day on Costa Cruises
In the coming months, passengers on four Costa cruises will be able to get a different perspective of life onboard -- as a crewmember. Under a new programme called ViceVersa, cruise directors on three Costa ships will train a number of volunteer members of the CostaClub, the line's loyalty scheme, in the art of service in all areas of shipboard life (singers, chefs, tour escorts, etc.). Once ready for action they'll work for one day as crewmembers in different positions, their place as a guest taken by the staffer whose job they are trying out. And in case you're wondering: These are "real" jobs. Many include interaction with passengers, and the volunteers will wear Costa uniforms with special ViceVersa logos. The whole idea conjures thoughts of all sorts of possibilities for disaster -- will these passengers be trained in crew emergency drills, for example? What if they can't cook/sing/clean/cope with angry passengers at the Guest Relations desk? But Costa is confident in the project's success, and the first cruise departed January 10 on a 21-day voyage on the Costa Luminosa, sailing from Dubai to India and the Maldives.

Mulaku DRP members frustrated by Dictator Gayoom’s campaign for PA

Dictator Gayoom with a half naked woman? Wonder what he is speaking about islam as a religious scolar. A Muslim? who doesn’t follow Allah , how he will follow his party? Fears for Economy as Oil Price Rises Cost Maldives $100,000 per day
The Maldives faces higher electricity bills, more expensive boat and car fuel and growing pressure on the value of the Ruffiya, thanks to a sharp rise in the price of oil. Oil reached $86 per barrel this month, an increase of over $10 per barrel since August. This means the country now has to spend an extra $100,000 per day on imported diesel, forcing up electricity and fuel costs. The oil price increase has been caused by an upswing in the global economy, with most major Western countries, including the United States, now reporting healthy economic growth. Rising demand for oil from emerging economic superpowers, such as China and India, is also increasing prices.

Why my top banker husband gave his £2m bonus to charity
We bring certain preconceptions to the idea of the Banker's Wife. Pampered, Prada-wearing shopaholic. Resident of ultra-wealthy Knightsbridge or Mayfair. A woman who thinks nothing of hopping in a helicopter rather than taking the Tube, who goes to theMaldives and El Bulli at half-term rather than the Science Museum and Pizza Express. But we'd be wrong, wrong, wrong, says Betsy Tobin hotly. Novelist and Very Senior Banker's Wife Tobin looks aghast at this "horrible" characterisation. She might be accompanying her husband to theWorld Economic Forum in Davos this week but, she says: "You have to be very careful about stereotypes. I think it's a pernicious thing ... Certainly my identity isn't closely allied with being a banker's wife. I was a writer well before my husband became a banker."

Maldives graduates from LDC status, yet continues to face unique challenges
Maldives was officially taken off the United Nations list of Least Developed Countries (LDCs) on 1 January 2011. After Botswana in 1994 and Cape Verde in 2007, it is the third country to graduate from LDC status. The growth and prosperity of the tourism sector has been the main engine of Maldives´ economic progress over the last two decades. Gross national income per capita, estimated at $3,970 in 2009, is over three times the graduation threshold. Yet acute vulnerability to external shocks makes overall prosperity a difficult goal to sustain. Maldives underwent negative real GDP growth in 2005 and 2009, after the country was severely hit by a tragic tsunami and a global economic crisis, respectively. Today´s Maldives is recognized by several United Nations bodies, notably in the light of the Economic Vulnerability Index, as one of the most vulnerable ountries in the world.
