Gayoom’s thoughts are still from the traditions of his regime- Zuhair
Press Secretary at President’s Office Mohamed Zuhair has said that the main opposition Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party’s (DRP) founding Leader and former President of Maldives Maumoon Abdul Gayoom is still speaking from the traditions of his regime.
Speaking to Miadhu Daily Press Secretary at President’s Office Mohamed Zuhair rebutted the claims of former President Gayoom that high posts of the government are given only to those from a certain party.
Rebutting these allegations, Zuhair said that Gayoom’s thoughts are still from the traditions of his 30 year rule. Zuhair said that Gayoom’s system is a failure and the people have already rejected it.
“Former President Gayoom is still thinking from the traditions of his regime. That system is rejected by the people. And they will never,” Press Secretary at President’s Office said.
Zuhair said that it is still difficult for Gayoom to digest that now the government is rule by a multi-party system and the candidates for government’s high ranking posts are selected in the bounds of the Constitution and through democratic elections.
Press Secretary also said that the Decentralisation system of government promoted by the MDP government is something that Gayoom had long rejected. He said that it is contradictory for Gayoom to now campaign in favour of the Local Councils.
Meanwhile, Minister of State for Home Affairs, Ahmed Mujtaba said on Sunday that former President Gayoom should be ashamed of himself to speak of Decentralisation.
Speaking at the public rally of the ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) held at Th. Thimarafushi, Minister of State Mujataba said that the former President Gayoom has tried his utmost to block the way for Maldives to accept Decentralisation.
He said that Gayoom went to such extremes that he removed Mohamed Waheeduddin from Atolls Administrator for trying to advocate the Decentralised form of government.
