Meeting to be Held out of Malé Gets Underway in Kulhudhuffushi

The first ever meeting of
the Maldives Cabinet to be held out of the capital, Malé has begun in
Kulhudhuffushi of South Thiladhunmathi Atoll.
The Cabinet meeting began at 10 o’clock yesterday morning at ‘Bodu Mohamed Hall’
of Upper North Province Office. As usual the morning session of the meeting is
organised as a working session, attended by the members of the cabinet, as well
as state ministers and deputy ministers.
Discussions at yesterday’s meeting are focused on development programmes planned
for Upper North Province. The Cabinet decided to expedite the development
programmes planned for Upper North Province.
After reflecting on the obstacles in implementing certain projects, discussed in
the working session of yesterday’s Cabinet meeting, the Cabinet decided to
commence the projects that could be easily implemented as soon as possible.
Members also agreed that the Upper North Province Office and line ministry to
collaborate to resolve the obstacles in executing certain projects.
Development programmes planned for Upper North Province include programmes
approved by the National Planning Council, projects in the Public Sector
Investment Programme, and projects carried out by public-private partnerships.
These programmes include improving education and health services in some islands
in the province, construction of water and sewerage systems, harbours, and other
infrastructure development projects, building drug detoxification centers and
housing projects.
Highlighting the first meeting of the Cabinet to be held out of Malé in the last
Friday’s radio address, the President said yesterday would be marked as a
historic day for the country and the government.
