Increase of Maldivians is no concern- Sri  Lanka


Sri Lankan government has stated that the increase of Maldivians in Sri Lanka is not concern for the government.

Answering a question raised by Vnews regarding recent statement Sri Lankan Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka, Spokesperson for the Sri Lankan President, Mohan Samaranayake said that despite the Minister's statement the government has no concern of the rise in the number of Maldivians living in the country.

Spokesperson of the Sri Lankan President said that the Maldivians in Sri Lanka faces no problems and are living in a peaceful environment. He said that the Minister's speech should not be taken as the stance of the government.

 

Mohan Samaranayake said that Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka was speaking in his individual capacity and was not relating the view of the government regarding the matter.

According to ‘Lanka C News’, Sri Lankan Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka recently stated that the Maldivians who had been displaced are now lining in large numbers in Sri Lanka’s Ratmalana , Nugegoda and Dehiwala areas and had come in seeking asylum in Sri Lanka is going to be a serious concern to the government in the future.
