Home Minister slams HRCM


Home Minister, Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed has said that it is not from the responsibilities of the Human Rights Commission of Maldives (HRCM) to issue statements pointing the mistakes of Police.

Minister Dr. Jameel made this remark rebutting the accusation of HRCM in their report on the events of February 6,7 and 8 that the no actions were taken against Police officers who violated the constitution. Dr. Jameel said that the report did not explain what the Police did wrong and how these wrongs should be rectified.

The Minister said that it is not the responsibility of the commission only to mention the mistakes of the Police officers without mentioning how they should be corrected.

Dr. Jameel said that it is a serious concern that the commission is issuing statements against Police without considering the limited resources they have and the work environment of the police.

Meanwhile, The Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) released the Annual Report of 2012 at a news conference that was held at the Office of HRCM on March 14, 2013, attended by Commission President Maryam Azra Ahmed Vice President Ahmed Tholal, Members Jeehan Mahmoodh, Ahmed Abdul Kareem and Dr. Aly Shameem. .
