MNDF commences its Inter-Unit Athletics Meet-2013

MNDF has commenced its 9th Inter-Unit Athletics Meet-2013. The opening ceremony of this meet was honored by the President of the Maldives Olympic Committee, Mr. Ibrahim Ismail.

The tournament was officially commenced after handing over the batten to the Chief Guest by national athlete Lance Corporal Shifaz Mohamed. 21 teams from two categories are participating in this tournament including 201 male athletes and 42 female athletes. Moreover, 3 events of officers, 4 events of MNDF families, one event for handicapped children and an open invitational event. The tournament would continue from 14th to 16th of this month. 406 athletes has previously taken part in this tournament including 151 civilian athletes.

The individual events of this tournament include 100m run, 200m run, 400m run, 800m run, 1500m run, 5km run, long jump, shot put, discus throwing. The team events include 4x100m relay, 4x400m relay and Swedish relay.

The athletics meet of MNDF has been conducted since 2002.

Vice Chief of Defence Force Brigadier General Ahmed Mohamed, Commandant of Coast Guard Brigadier General Ahmed Shahid, Acting Commandant of Service Corps Colonel Abdurraheem, President of Dhivehi Sifainge Club (DSC), General Secretary of DSC, Acting Command Sergeant Major of MNDF Sergeant Major Ahmed Abdulla and athletes participated in the opening ceremony.
