No parties were dissolved, only removed from registry- EC
The Elections Commission has stated that no parties were dissolved with the implementation of the Political Parties Act but parties with less than 10000 members were removed from the commission's party registry.
Speaking to Miadhu Daily, President of the Elections Commission Fuwad Thaufeeg said that parties with less than 10,000 members were removed from the registry because the Political Party Act did not detail on what should be done with those parties.
Fuwad said that the Commission will decide on these parties only after the Supreme Court concludes the cases filed regarding the matter.
Fuwad added that the Elections Commission is facing many difficulties because the Political Party Act did not mention what should be done with parties less than 10000 members. He said that the commission is doing whatever it can to solve this. He said that although the Secretary General of the Elections Commission said that these parties will be dissolved it is not the decision of the commission.
Meanwhile, parties removed from the registry of the commission including President's Gaumee Ittihad Party (GIP) and MDA have strongly criticized the commission.
MDA stated that more than 2000 forms submitted to the commission has not been processed by the commission and it has been two months since they were submitted. They said that the commission now has total 12700 forms and it was from injustice that the commission removed the party from the registry without any notice.
