Work on Waqf building project is still pending due to City Council- Sheikh Shaheem

Minister of Islamic Affairs, Sheikh Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has said that the work on the 10 storey Waqf building for the management of mosques is still pending because of the delay of the City Council in passing the architectural drawing of the building.

In reply to a question raised by a journalist, Sheikh Shaheem said that there is enough fund to lay the foundation of the building and start the project. He said that the Ministry has been receiving many funds for the project.

"The drawing have been finished. Land plot has been registered. It has been two months since I sent the drawing to the City Council to get their approval. Therefore I urge and request the respected members of the City Council to please approve it quickly," he said.

"This is not for me. This is not for the leaders. This is for all of the people of Maldives. This is to provide assistance to the mosques of Maldives. When the building is established it will surely reap benefit. We will receive more than 2 million ruffiya annually for the fund. Therefore that is a very large amount to manage mosques," he said.
