The people have proved by their actions that they want the leadership of President- Abbas
Majlis members and councilors of other parties join GIP 

Spokesperson of the Gaumee Ittihad Party, Abbas Adil Riza has said that the people of Maldives have proved by their actions that they want the leadership of President Dr. Mohamed Waheed.

Speaking to Miadhu Daily, Abbas Adil Riza said that the Gaumee Ittihad Party was looked at as a smaller party because of the lack of actions taken by the party previously to gain membership for the party. He said that President Dr. Mohamed Waheed gave importance to expanding the country rather than expanding  the party.

"Political Parties bill returned to the People’s Majlis by President Dr. Waheed was passed by the Majlis without any amendments not only to dissolve Gaumee Ittihad Party but to destroy the political future of President Dr. Waheed. The people have proven today that they understand these things well," he said.

Abbas said that within four days with the assistance of the President following the forcing of gaining minimum 10000 members many people have been joining the party including Majlis members and councilors from other parties.

Abbas, in an interview to Vnews said that even if Gaumee Ittihad Party gains 10000 members the case held against the political party bill at the Supreme Court will still continue.

Gaumee Itthad Party has now received 10731 membership forms. According to Elections Commission registry the party has a membership of 3930 members and they have with them 1101 forms pending. Therefore with the 2200 forms submitted to the commission and the 3500 forms that will be submitted today and the pending 5700 forms will increase the members of the party to 10731 members.
