Don’t compel the people to beg- Shiyam

Interim President of the MDA, Ahmed Shiyam Mohamed has called to stop the age old custom of compelling the people to beg for their basic needs.

He made this remark speaking at the public rally of the party held at Ihavandhoo island last Friday during the party’s tour to Noonu Atoll.

Shiyam said that the true sovereignty and independence of the Maldives is lost. He said that the people are living in a situation where they have to beg to get their basic needs. He said that it is saddening that this has not been a concern of anyone nor anyone has focused on rectifying this issue. He said that the rights of the people granted by the constitution are being violated.

Shiyam said that with this poor condition of the people the country will go backwards instead of progressing forward. He said that it is time to change this and turn the tables.

In addition to this Shiyam said that his work is very busy but he freed some time for political activities to serve the people. He said that it was for the purpose of working for a better future for the people of Maldives that he formed a political party.
