President is an ideal example of loyalty: Masood

Media Secretary Masood Imad has said that President Dr. Mohamed Waheed is an ideal example of loyalty and faithfulness.

Media Secretary Masood made this remark speaking to Miadhu Daily in response to the allegations of former President Mohamed Nasheed that President Dr. Waheed was a disloyal Vice President and that no political leader will want to be in allegiance to a double crossing person.

Masood said that Dr. Waheed proved his worth during his tenure as the Vice President. He said he filled all the posts he was in with sincerity and truthfulness.

“No matter what the position was, he was always loyal to his job. Whether it was a local or an international job. He is an example, an ideal example of loyalty and faithfulness,” he said.

Moreover, Masood noted that President Dr. Waheed is the longest serving Maldivian to have served in a world renowned international organisation such as the United Nations. He said that this is is a clear proof of the sincerity and the capability of the Dr Waheed.

“It was the people who elected him as the Vice President in the 2008 election. His appointment to the post through the ticket of MDP does not mean he has to break the law and violate the constitution following whatever President Nasheed said. This is not loyalty. Rather he was elected to uphold and obey the constitution. And was loyal to that during his tenure. He never participated in any of the illegal activities. And nor will he participate in any such activities in the future,” he said.

He said that he served as the Vice President and serves as the President today within the confines of the constitution. He said that there is no question about the loyalty of President Dr. Waheed and no institution has so far every accused him of being disloyal.

In addition to this, Masood said that the people elected him as the Vice President so that he can ascend to the post of the President if the President for any reason resigns.

“Nasheed resigned not because of his Vice President. He resigned on his own accord. And according the constitution the Vice President will ascend to the post of the President if the President resigns,” he said.

Masood said that despite the allegations of former President Nasheed, many major political parties have shown interest to join in allegiance to President Dr. Waheed in the upcoming election.
