Male’ city council should stop ridiculing the government and
the people.- Ilham
Gemanafushi MP Ilham Ahmed has said that dissolving Male’ City Council is not a solution but the council should stop ridiculing the government and the people.
Ilham said that it might be not the best of decisions to abolish a city council when the democracy in the Maldives is in its early stages. However, he said that if the council continues to hinder the government from serving the people the government cannot stay silent delaying action against the council.
“Two story buildings can only be built by taking prior permission. This permit is issued by the housing ministry. But we see Male’ City Council giving this permit to whoever they want. Will the council take responsibility for any damages and harm caused by those buildings? What will they do to take such responsibility?,” he said.
“Usfasgandu is an important spot for the people. However it has been leased to a certain people for a certain number of days. No rules no regulations are followed. And this has been causing traffic jams in the streets nearby. All the difficulties are faced by the people. Is this not a mockery of the people?,” he said.
Ilham said that some island councils also have started following the bad example of the Male’ City Council.
