Presenting CONI report to Majlis is no different than leaking it on the
internet- Ilham
Gemanafushi constituency MP Ilham Ahmed has said that presenting the report of the Committee of National Inquiry (CONI) on the events of February 7 2012 that led to the change of the government is no different from leaking the whole report on the internet.
MP Ilham said that many confidential documents of the Majlis have been leaked in the internet many times. He said that the government should decide on presenting the report to the Majlis very wisely considering the reality of the Majlis.
Ilham noted that the people who gave their testimonies to CONI gave them after the government fully assured that their identity will not be disclosed. He said that the government should uphold the trust of the people to the commission.
“If not the people will never give their testimonies in case of an investigation of a similar situation if it to happen in the future. They will hesitate to give their testimonies for sure,” he said.
Ilham said that the Majlis can take the testimonies of people again if the Majlis wants to reinvestigate the matter. However he said that it is very dangerous to disclose all the information mentioned in the CONI report. He said that there are possibilities that the lives of the witnesses might be put to danger if the report is leaked.
Meanwhile, the government has so far declined the request of the Majlis to provide information on the report. However, Miadhu Daily understands that the Majlis has again requested the government to provide the information on the report by tomorrow.
