Majlis is an honourable institution that guides the government- Sheikh Shaheem

Minister of Islamic Affairs Sheikh Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has said that the Peoples’ Majlis is an honorable institution that guides the government to be on the right track and therefore the members of the Majlis should show this in their actions.

Sheikh Shaheem said that the Majlis members should be role models that the people look up to since it is the Majlis which passes laws and make policies. He said that the lives of the members should be honourable and they should not engage in any criminal activities or lowly behavior.

Sheikh Shaheem noted that despite this the members show a totally different picture in the Majlis sittings. He said that the members make balatant lies against government institutions including the Ministry of Islamic Affairs.

He said that some members use profanities when speaking in Majlis debates even when the sessions are shown live on TV. He said that it is saddening that the members continue to disappoint the people with such lowly behavior.

Sheikh Shaheem said that there is no problem in the members criticizing government institutions but the problem lies in making unfound accusations and slanders.
