Judge Abdullah is the biggest stain on the judiciary - Imthiyaz

Imthiyaz Fahmy, the spokesperson of the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has said that the Chief Judge Abdullah Mohamed is the biggest stain on the judiciary of Maldives.

Peoples' Majlis member for the Maafannu Uthuru constituency, Imthiyaz made this remark speaking at the Headlines programme of RaajjeTV. He said that the unjust and undue sentences and verdicts of Judge Abdullah has been tainting the image of the judiciary.

Imthiyaz said that the people have lost their trust in the judiciary because of the recklessness of Judge Abdullah.

Imthiyaz stressed that ensuring a widely respected judiciary is one of the pillars of consolidating democracy. He said that MDP came out to achieve this.

In addition to this Imthiyaz said that it is ironic that the religious scholars in political parties give a deaf ear to the calls for the rectification of the judiciary while they call to behead people. He accused them of trying to achieve their own political agendas under the pretext of calling for the establishment of Islamic Shariah.
