Court again orders Police to arrest Nasheed to produce him for the court hearing
Hulhumale' Magistrate Court has again ordered Maldives Police Service to arrest former President Mohamed Nasheed to produce him for the court hearing of the case filed against him by the independent Prosecutor General on the charges of ordering the arbitrary arrest of Criminal Court Chief Judge Abdullah Mohamed.
The hearing is scheduled for next Wednesday at 1600 hrs. The court order was issued yesterday.
The legal team of the former President Nasheed confirmed the court order of the Hulhumale' Magistrate Court for the Police to arrest Nasheed and produce him at court.
The court issued a similar arrest warrant last Tuesday but Nasheed fled his trial and sought refuge at the Indian High Commission. He has been staying at the High Commission since last Wednesday.
Foreign Minister Dr. Abdusamad Abdullah stated that if the court issues such a warrant and the police request to implement the order than the government will seek to find a solution to it by holding discussions with the Indian government. Indian High Commissioner DM Mulay was yesterday summoned to the Foreign Ministry regarding the matter.
