If Nasheed wasn’t in our protection, he would have been thrown into a lynch mob- Nazim

Minister of Defence Mohamed Nazim has said that if the former President Mohamed Nasheed was not in the protection and safety of some leading people he would have been thrown into a lynch mob.

Speaking to Miadhu Daily, Minister Nazim said that the people gathered at the Republican Square on February 7 last year were enraged and frustrated at the decisions and actions of President Nasheed. He said that if Nasheed came out to them without the protection of known men who would be obeyed by the people then Nasheed would have thrown himself into a lynch mob.

Nazim said that if the events of February 7 are to be mentioned than the events of February 6 should be recalled. He said that the people got angry from the moment when a peaceful protest at held at artificial beach on the night of February 6 was attacked by activists of the then ruling party.

Nazim said that the first President of Maldives had to suffer and die at the hands of a lynch mob and he went to protect Nasheed on February 7 because he did not want history to repeat again. He said that despite the rhetoric of Nasheed he was there on that day to protect and safeguard Nasheed. He said that Nasheed is aware of this very well.

In addition to this Nazim said that if he did not protect Nasheed and did not take him to the President’s Office Nasheed would not survive to see this day.
