Chief of Defence Force visits HDh.Makunudhoo
Chief of Defence Force Major General Ahmed Shiyam has visited to HDh.Makunudhoo during the official visit to MNDF Northern Area.
He was very warmly welcomed on his arrival by the citizens of the island. This visit is aimed at participating the closing ceremony of the week long volunteer firefighters training program held at HDh.Makunudhoo.
At the closing ceremony of this program, the introductory remarks and vote of thanks was delivered by a citizen of the island. In his vote of thanks, he thanked MNDF on behalf of the citizens for the assistance that has been rendered in producing volunteer firefighters and this would give a significant impact for the society. He also noted that even though Makunudhoo is geographically isolated in the west side of the Maldives, MNDF never discriminates the island in providing their services.
A participant of this program also addressed the gathering at this ceremony. He said that the things learned from this program would make possible the participants to react to an emergency fire incident in order to extinguish it with the help of available equipments and resources.
Addressing the gathering, Chief of Defence Force Major General Ahmed Shiyam said that unlike many other islands, the citizens of Makunudhoo Island is an example of unity and brotherhood. He also emphasized that the coordination between the Island Council and citizens are well maintained, it is obvious that all are working together to instill training and education for a better youth generation. He stressed that it is for this reason why MNDF has to give a significant concern to this island. Speaking further, he said that he expect to witness this kind of unified citizens from all the islands of Maldives and he assured that if citizens maintain this kind of fraternity, MNDF would always welcome to conduct such programs in future. He constantly urged the citizens to build a better society and remain firm throughout as brothers.
Chief of Defence Force has awarded certificates for those who completed this week long training program of volunteer firefighters. During this ceremony, a demonstration was presented by the firefighters.
Chief of Defence Force also hoisted the flag to declare the Makunudhoo pre-school open.
