Only mere talks won’t solve our economic problems- President
President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan has said that only mere talks won’t solve the economic problems faced by Maldives.
He made this remark while addressing the people of Kulhudhuffushi Island, Friday evening.
The President said that repeatedly expressing the discomfort that we are living today would not solve our problems and enrich us. He said that the economy of the Maldives is not as bad as it is said to be and it has been gradually becoming better.
“The economy has been better in 2012 than in 2011. Hopefully it will be much better in 2013,” he said.
The President noted that the Maldives gets good income but there are other problems. “I would say that these problems are mainly political issues. These difficulties we face are because of these political problems. But I tell you all that the past years were not easy on us. But we have made efforts to provide the basic needs and services to the people,” he said.
Stating that the economic performance of the country in 2012 was better than 2011, President Waheed expressed confidence that this year’s economic performance would also improve.
