Emir of Qatar visits Maldives
-President concludes official visit to Kuwait


The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani has arrived in Maldives in an unofficial visit to Maldives.

Miadhu Daily is informed that the Emir's visit is unofficial and he came to Maldives early last night in his own jet.

According to some staff of the Ibrahim Nasir International Airport, the Emir of Qatar walked to his launch and there were about 28 delegates with him.

Miadhu Daily understands that the Emir of Qatat Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani will visit some of the islands to decide on the islands to invest by the Qatar government.

A top official of the Maldivian government informed Miadhu Daily that this visit is a result of the recent visit of President Dr. Mohamed Waheed to Qatar and the President's hard work to stabilise the economy of Maldives.

During the meeting with the Emir, the President expressed his appreciation for the Emir’s generous support extended to the Maldives over the years. The President applauded the Emir for his leadership in addressing critical issues facing the Islamic world today. The President also noted that under the Emir’s leadership, Qatar has emerged as one of the most advanced countries in the region, and was an important player in global politics.

Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani assured President Waheed of Qatar’s commitment to work with the Government of Maldives in promoting investment in the Maldives in various areas, including infrastructure developments and the education sector. The Emir also expressed his hopes of the Maldives making progress to become one of the most successful countries in the region.

Meanwhile, President Dr Mohamed Waheed and First Lady Madam Ilham Ahmed has returned to Male’ after concluding their official visit to Kuwait.

The President, on arrival, was greeted by Vice President Mohamed Waheed Deen, some cabinet ministers and some top officials of the state.
