A Maldivian and a Bangladeshi arrested at airport with Christian literature in Dhivehi


Maldives Customs Service has informed that a Maldivian man and a Bangladeshi man were arrested at Ibrahim Nasir International Airport with Christian literature in Dhivehi language.

In a press conference held at Customs Head Office yesterday, Chief Customs Officer Ahmed Simah said that both of the men arrested came to Maldives from Colombo, Sri Lanka on September 27, Thursday. He said that the Bangladeshi is a 44 year old man named Jathish Biswas. He did not reveal the name of the Maldivian.

Bangladeshi man came earlier with 11 books on Christianity translated in Dhivehi language.

Simah said that the man told the Customs Officers that he brought the books at the request of a Maldivian. He did not reveal the name of the person as the investigations are still underway.

Simah said that this person came to Maldives with a tourist visa and booked a room in a hotel in Male’ prior to his coming.

The books in Dhivehi include books entitled, “The True Path, “The Secret of the Sacrifice” and “Four things about the Gospel”. Simah said that the Maldivian man came later and he had Christian literature in the English language.

Simah said that the customs service confiscated the books and now have handed them to Maldives Police Service.
