Can live in the country if we abide to the law  and judiciary system – Thaufeeq

Political Advisor to the President Ahmed Thaufeeq has said that we can live in the country if we abide to the law  and also by accepting the judiciary system of the country.  Answering a question from Miadhu news, Thaufeeq said Maldives is a 100% muslim country and the laws are based on this , so nobody can do whatever they can because the Maldives constitution does not allow to bring these kind of changes.

Answering to the questions from raajjenews.com about MDP;s decision not to follow any court rulings till the changes they want are brought to the Judiciary of the country, Mr. Thouwfeg said whether any one likes or not it’s compulsory to follow court court orders and former President Mohamed Nasheed cannot be exempted from it. “No one is above the law. Neither Mr. Nasheed or myself.”

He said reforms can be brought  to anything except Quran and our beloved Prophet Mohamed’s sunnat. He said reforms can be brought to rules and regulations. But it can be achieved through the constitution.

Thaufeeq said everybody, somehow will have ideas to bring changes to the rules and regulations but it does not mean that they can stay without accepting the constitution and the judiciary system  till the changes they want comes out. He said if they don’t accept the constitution and the judiciary system, they are committing a crime and they have to be punished according to the law.

Talking about the halted talks of the political parties , Thaufeeq said talks will resume when President Dr.Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik returns from the US. He said the talks have been halted because the Chairman of Leaders Dialogue, Mr.Ahmed Mujthaba  had resigned from the talks  after  MDP withdrew from the talks. He said President Waheed will appoint a new Chairman when he return to Maldives.
