Preseident  says  don’t look democracy as an individual at the U.N


President Dr.Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has said that in every country don’t look democracy as an individual.  Speaking at the UN General Assembly, the President said, he is concerned that some big countries are interfering the young democracy of Maldives, since democracy provides every country’s constitution, how the people to live and their cultures and faith. He  expressed his concern on issuing reports of Maldives by groups like Amnesty International by not looking into the actual cases. He also stated that Commonwealth too, didn’t look into the actual circumstances and the constitution of the Maldives  and ordered for an early election in the Maldives.  Dr. Waheed said since Maldives is a small country, that doesn’t mean that Maldives should not get proper justice.

Speaking against the film made on insulting Prophet Mohamed, President Waheed said this is an act done by purposely by some people in order to create hatred in the world. And he condemned the film very strictly.

According to Maldivian government this is the first time a leader of Maldives had openly  expressed about Maldives being a constructive muslim country to the whole world.

Speaking about Palestine being a permanent member of UN, Dr.Waheed said Palestine should get full independence and sovereignty. And he would like to see Palestine as a full member if the UN. According to the President’s Press Secretary Abbas Adil Riza, Maldives has left the ‘soft policy’ on Pallestine case from now on. He said from today inwards Maldives will always support on Palestine issues and will not go away from the meetings when vote is to be taken on Palestine issues.

In his statement,  President  looked into the threats on emissions of greenhouse gases.  He said Maldives contributes a very less amount in this but Maldives faces lots of threats due to this. He said about 113 islands in Maldives today faces the threat of environmental problems and have to spend  20 per cent of the country's GDP has to be used to recover the damages we get from the threats.
