Government cannot run  without media  - Mohamed Saleem


Minister of State for Home Affairs Mr. Mohamed Saleem has said that a  government  cannot run without media.  Speaking at the ceremony to give certificates who completed the Self Defence Skill Training held for media personnel by Maldives Police, Saleem said government cannot run without media because media is the body which shows the government the right way to the government.

Saleem said media is the fourth power of a government and the watchdog to the government. He also said compared to the region Maldivian media personnel are very capable people.

Saleem, who worked in the media for 13 years said, media personnel work in dangerous conditions, they are people who go to the violence filed and bring out the correct information to the people. He said some media personnel have been attacked by the people who are displeased with them.  He also said that government is trying to have more training programmes to media personnel and the government will work on getting opportunities to the media  under the constitution.

After giving certificates to the 25 participants of the training, Saleem said in a period like this, due to the initiation of Maldives Police  to have such a training programme to media personnel will provide safety to the personnel.
