Foreign influence will not save Nasheed from the law- Abbas

Press Secretary Abbas Adil Riza has said that foreign influences will not save former President Mohamed Nasheed from the law.

Abbas said that Nasheed should not expect that the government will hesitate from foreign influences and Nasheed cannot save himself from getting prosecuted for the crimes he has committed.

Abbas said that the government has explained this to everyone and so no one will be having any doubts regarding the government’s stand.

Abbas noted that Nasheed has now lost the chance to cover his crimes regardless of any rhetoric he might be making in Nasheed’s politically motivated statements against getting prosecuted.

“If Nasheed is persecuted and sent to prison than it is because of his own crimes and getting a sentence from a court of law,” he said.

Abbas said that Nasheed has challenged and violated the constitution several times during his three year dictatorial rule and also after his resignation.

“The constitution is very clear that the one who violated the constitution by breaking the law he will have to face prosecution. So I believe that Nasheed will be subjected to law and will be given his rightful punishment for his crimes,” he said.
