The alliance of political parties who established the “Reclaiming Maldivian Airport to Maldivians” movement has urged all people to participate in their activities to reclaim Ibrahim Nasir International Airport.
The parties announced that they will be initiating their activities under this movement on Thursday night.
In a press conference held at Stelco Hall, the seven parties in the alliance informed the media that the coalition urges all people of Maldives to participate in these series of activities to reclaim the airport.
“We want to show the stand of the people of Maldives to the governments of India and Maldives. These are not protests. But peaceful activities”
The participants of the movement said that this is a struggle for the sake of the Maldivian nation. And added that this issue is close to the blood and pulse of the people and the airport is an asset of the nation. The parties informed the various activities will be held in this regard.
The alliance of parties also said that there are many issues in the agreement between the former government and the GMR that is detrimental to Maldives. They said that they will end their activities after successfully accomplishing their objective.
The Thursday night even at Artificial Beach will be initiated at 9:00 pm and the people will be demonstrating their thoughts on the issue. The coalition said that these activities are not organized to achieve any political agenda so there will be no political activities.
The parties also said that the Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) is also invited to partake in the activities although so far there has been no participation from the party. The coalition stated that they have not been informed of the reason why DRP refuses to participate in the activities that are held to reclaim the airport back to Maldives.
Jumhooree Party Council member Fuwad Gasim said that although DRP has not participated in the movement he does not believe that DRP is against these activities.
