Training Programme for Building Modern and Effective Labour Inspection Systems held


To improve the quality of life and working conditions of more than 173,000 workers in Maldives, the ILO Project on Promoting Fundamental Rights and Strengthening Labour Market Governance in the Maldives in association with the Ministry of Human Resources, Youth and Sports (MHRYS) is organizing a 6 day training workshop from 22-29 September 2012 in the Labour Relations Authority

This workshop is a follow up of the workshop conducted in May 2012. During the workshop in May labour 23 officials were trained, labour inspection forms and compliance order was developed and it was agreed that the labour inspectors would pilot test the tools developed.  The present workshop is to build on the achievement of the previous workshop and further develop the capacity if the labour inspections.

The objective of the workshop is to train labour inspectors to undertake quality labour inspections as required under the Employment Act 2009 of Maldives.  The workshop also provides tools and practical experience for the inspectors to facilitate the labour inspections.  The participants of this workshop are 19 officials from Labour Relations Authority, 2 officials from the Maldives Police Service, 2 officials from the Department of Immigration and Emigration and 1 official from the Ministry of Gender, Family and Human Rights. 

The inaugural of the workshop is at 09:30 on Tuesday, 25 September by the Permanent Secretary of MHRYS Mr. Mohamed Mahid Shareef.  The closing of the workshop is at 15:45 on Saturday 29 September 2012 and the guest of honour will be the Minister of Human Resources, Youth and Sports Mr. Mohamed Hussain Shareef.
