Decision on airport will be taken when the right time comes – Dr.Waheed

President Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has said that the decision on the agreement between the government and Ibrahim Nasir International Airport  operator GMR,will be taken when the right time comes.

 Speaking before leaving to New York to participate in the United Nations General Assembly on friday,  Dr. Waheed said he will take the decision for the benefit of the people. He said he did not say a word to any parties involved in this case and he is looking and hearing what everyone saying very carefully.

Dr.Waheed said  decision on the airport should be taken very urgently and when the right time comes to make decision he won’t take a single step back. He said there is a possibility on terminating the agreement and by the grace of Allah he will take the best step that will be required. He also said that the Chairman of GMR company Mr.G M Rao have not requested to have an appointment with him.

Speaking about his trip to UN , Dr.Waheed said Maldives has to be removed from the CMAG’s meeting scheduled on the 29^th  of this month and he has already informed the authorities about his participation in the meeting. He said no Presidents or Heads of States will participate in CMAG meeting but he personally will participate in the meeting.

The President said he will meet the Leaders of various countries and will seek help in getting the annual budget for the country. He  said an important meeting on ‘Rule of Law’ will be held and he will take part in the meeting with Attorney General Azima Shakoor. He also said meetings on environment will take place and the Environment Minister Dr. Shakeela will participate in the meeting.
