Government to provide every under 18 with higher studies
or to make skilled people
President Dr.Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has told that the government is to start a programme on giving higher studies and skills to all the students who are under 18. He told this while speaking at the official programme to mark the country’s youth day. He told the government plans this to be as a policy. He told the government plans that each and every student who are under 18 to study up to A level or to learn atleat some constructive work before they come to job market. And we can achieve this by increasing institutions and centres which can provide A level studies. And to have courses of various levels for those who cannot complete there A levels.
In his speech the President highlighted the increasing amount of foreign
teachers, doctors and nurses in Maldives. He said that 80 % pf teachers who are
teaching higher studies are foreigners . And also said that almost all the
doctors and nurses who are working out of Male are foreigners. The President
said that there are lot of eligible Maldivians who are fit for these jobs and
he has the assurance that these youths can perform and can take responsibilities
of the respective jobs. He said in order to provide these jobs to the youths,
today it is the responsibility of everybody to provide higher studies
opportunities to the students. He said today, each year about 300 students are
taking higher courses from the country and universities abroad. And its is very
disheartening that each year 300 girls who are under 18 are being pregnant.
The President said that the government has planned to announce about 1500
courses to youths. Out of which 489 courses will be funded from the Zakaath fund
and 1000 courses are under from revolving loan scheme he said. Dr. Waheed said
that in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ministry of
Education and Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture the government is planning
to have ‘ Skills Training at Resorts’ short term courses of 3 months to 6 months
, to train students who have finished their schools , so that they can earn by
themselves and can lead a happy life.
