Quotes from Presidents Speech:

I would also like to say a few words in English, just to thank our partners from abroad, particularly the Scottish Police, college and our diplomats, and other representatives who are here for supporting this institute.

For us, this is a landmark event as we are establishing this new institute which is going to enhance our police training and security training in the country. And at a time when international scrutiny is heavily on Maldives, as we go through this very difficult democratic transition, it is very important for us to build a professional police service and to ensure that all of our police personnel, security personnel, follow strict guidelines and adhere to their co-values and demonstrate their professionalism.

I believe they have done a marvelous job until now. Of course sometimes when you have difficult assignments, things happen. But that shouldn’t be equated with the normal situation.

I am quite confident that our police force will continue to be a professional body that conforms to international standards of excellence. And to do that I think this institute is going to enormously contribute, and the expertise that our colleagues from abroad are providing to this endeavor, I think will ensure that we maintain those standards. I really appreciate your contribution, and I hope you continue to assist us.

I am really happy that we are starting this undergraduate and graduate level courses for our security personnel. And it is our hope that the Maldivian security forces will continue and grow to be highly respected, at par with the most professional law enforcement personnel in any country.

So thank you all for this great initiative. And I wish this institute all the best. I am happy to assure that this institute will continue to receive the utmost importance from the government, and the necessary resources to make this successful.

Thank you very much.
