MDP decides to temporarily withdraw from Leaders’ Dialogue

- Second meeting of the Leaders’ Dialogue scheduled for today

Opposition Maldivian Democratic Party’s (MDP) National Steering Committeerday has decided yesterday to temporarily withdraw the MDP from Leaders’ Dialogue.

A statement released by MDP says that the decision was not in any way intended to refrain from the discussions as the party always supports and encourages the principles of dialogue. Also MDP is a party that will always support and welcome discussions.

This decision was made in the 125th meeting of the MDP's National Steering Committee.

By the meantime most politicians believe that the MDP stopped  dialogue since Mr. Nasheed has no more confidence and trust on Mr. Reeko Moosamaniku, Chaiperson of MDP and wants to change him from the Dialogue Team

The MDP made this decision while the government has rejected MDPs proposal to join the government. And the main parties participating in the leaders dialogue have also rejected this proposal of the opposition MDP.

President Dr. Waheed noted that MDP was given the opportunity to participate in the government earlier even when former president Nasheed and the members of MDP were continuously harassing the government and the president accusing him being a coup leader. The president added that MDP rejected this offer when they were given a period of two months to decide on the matter therefore he does not intend to renew this offer.

Meanwhile, a second meeting of the leaders’ dialogue is scheduled for today.
