We have no secret deals with GMR- JP
Jumhooree Party has stated that the Jumhooree Party and the party leader Gasim Ibrahim has no secret deals with the GMR and in a Jumhooree Party government there will be no GMR in the Maldives.
Jumhooree Party also said that the party leader Gasim Ibrahim considers the agreement between GMR and the government to have many flaws and is not in the best interest of the country. The party added that they still respect the agreement of the coalition of parties against the GMR agreement.
Stating the party is ready to do everything possible under the agreement of the coalition, Gasim Ibrahim said that if the Jumhooree Party was the ruling party, the airport will be taken away from the GMR.
He said that this is an issue of national concern and that lease of the airport to the GMR is a great harm afflicted on the people.
In view of the recent spread of rumours about secret deals between GMR and the Jumhooree Party, Gasim Ibrahim said that the sincerity and intention of the people spreading such news are questionable.
Meanwhile, Government spokesperson Abbas Adhil Riza said that the government’s policy to seek solutions to such issues is through discussions and through of the courts of law if necessary.
Leader of the Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP), Ahmed Thasmeen Ali said that the decision to take away the airport from the GMR should be made wisely. He said that the government should consider the consequences of such a decision too.
