No excuse to keep the Maldives in CMAG's agenda- President

President Dr. Mohamed Waheed has said he does not believe that there is any excuse for the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group (CMAG) to keep Maldives in the agenda of CMAG.

The President made this remark speaking to the media following his arrival at the Ibrahim Nasir International Airport yesterday evening concluding his official visit to China. He said that the investigative report of the Commission of National Inquiry (CoNI) had answered all questions surrounding the transfer of power on February 7.

President Dr. Waheed reiterated that Maldives should be removed from the CMAG agenda since the CoNI has now completed its investigation and the investigation had ruled that the power transfer had been constitutional.

The President expressed confidence that CMAG will remove Maldives from its mandate soon. He said that the government has presented the CMAG with clear report on the situation and requested to remove the country from their mandate.

CMAG had placed Maldives in its agenda following the questions raised by the opposition with regard to the transfer of power on February 7. CMAG had also warned strict measures against the Maldives which had pressured the government to reconstitute the CoNI with representation of Nasheed and international partners.
