DRP will not support President Dr. Waheed in the Presidential Election- Thasmeen

Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) Leader Ahmed Thasmeen Ali has said that the DRP will not support President Dr. Mohamed Waheed in the Presidential Election to be held next year if the President was to contest in the election.

Thasmeen made this remark answering a question posed by DhiTV. He said that DRP has already decided to contest in the 2013 Presidential Election and therefore it is not sensible to support a candidate from another party.

Thasmeen said that there is a lot of rectification to be brought as the election is getting closer. And election should not be something that should be taken as the acts of generosity of the President, he said. He said that the all doors to undue influence on the election should be closed down.

Meanwhile, DRP rejected the call of the Civic Society Coalition to appoint one candidate from the government coalition however, the Civic Society Coalition revealed to the media last week that the coalition is very assured that one candidate can be appointed for the election.
