Maldives Hotel Asia 2012 will see the participation of a delegation from Sri Lanka


The Maldives Hotel Asia 2012 will see the participation of a Twenty (20) member high powered delegation from Sri Lanka from 10th to 12th September 2012 courtesy of the Sri Lanka – Maldives Bilateral Business Council of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce.

Delegation from the Sri Lanka – Maldives Bilateral Business Council comprised of Colonial Hardware Group, D.  Samson Industries (Pvt) Ltd., Dasuns House Plants, Eastern &  Allied  Agencies  Ltd., Farm’s Pride (Pvt) Ltd., Kelani Cables PLC, Malship (Ceylon) Limited, Overseas Realty (Ceylon) PLC, Rileys (Pvt) Ltd. (Member  of Hayleys  PLC), Unixsigns (Pvt) Limited and The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce

Products/Services that would be promoted during the mission are Building and Construction Material, Canned Foods, Compost mixed manure and treated coco peat, Corporate gift items, Dairy Products, Eco Friendly handmade items, Electrical and Engineering Items, Steel Pipes, Fauna and flora including tropical plants, Floor covering products made out of Rubber and Coir, Footwear - EVA / Rubber Slippers & Sandals, Canvas Shoes, Rubber Boots, Fresh Fruits & Vegetables, Frozen Meat items, Fruits and Vegetables, Handloom /Handloom Items – Hotel linen made out of handloom, bags, toys, Key tags, Hotel Requisites, Landscape items – Plants, Power Cables, Telecommunication Cables, Submersible pump cables, Welding Cables, Panel Cables, and Coaxial Cables & Enameled Winding Wires, Resort requirements and Uniforms for Hotel Sector.

This mission hopes to facilitate the establishment and further expansion of business contacts by taking into consideration the advantages of entering the Maldivian market. The Sri Lanka – Maldives Bilateral Business Council has 117 registered members encompassing various product/service sectors.

The Council pavilion at the Hotel Asia 2012 will be used as the venue for one to one business meetings in addition to showcasing promotional material and samples of a wide array of products mission members wish to promote in Maldives. Along with organizing business matchmaking sessions with the Maldivian business community with the assistance of the Maldives National Chamber of Commerce & Industry and the Sri Lanka High Commission in Maldives, arrangements have been made to organize networking sessions with the relevant Government Ministries/Departments such as the Ministry of Economic Development & Trade, Maldives Association of Construction Industry and the Invest Maldives.

This would be an ideal opportunity for delegates to permeate into an upcoming market with tremendous potential through the Sri Lanka – Maldives Bilateral Business Council. “The Maldives tourism sector is growing at a rapid pace; the country has targeted over a million tourists for 2012. Maldives has 105 Resort Islands and 40 tourism projects in pipeline in 15 atolls.  There will be new Regional Airports established to cater to the increased demand of tourism,” said Hon. Ahmed Adheeb Abdul Ghafoor, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Maldives during his recent visit to Sri Lanka to coincide with the visit of Dr. Mohamed Waheed, President of the Republic of Maldives.

Hussain S. Hashim, President of the Sri Lanka – Maldives Bilateral Business Council will be the Mission Leader whilst Ms. Lilakshini de Mel, Senior Assistant Secretary General of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce will be co-ordinating the mission to Maldives for the fourth time since the inauguration of the Council in May 2007.
