Rinbudhoo people will decide their future – President


President Dr.Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has said that the people of Rinbudhoo will decide their future. He spoke on this issue because the previous government tried to shift the people of Rinbudhoo to another island and make Rinbudhoo an uninhabited island. Dr.Waheed said the government will accept any decision taken by the people of the island.

During his tour to South Nilandhe Atoll and making a visit to Rinbudhoo, Dr.Waheed told the people of the island to make a righteous decision regarding the change to another island policy. He said to the people to look into the facilities they have got in their island and to think wisely and discuss on this issue.

According to information got to Miadhu News, the people of the island want to shift to another island and want to develop Rinbudhoo a cultural island which will be open for tourism. According to Rinbudhoo council there are  540 people in the island.

Regarding making Rinbudhoo a cultural tourism island, Dr. Waheed said tourism is a  very fragile industry and if the people of the island want to develop the island like this, the people of the island should be very cooperative. He said if this is the decision of the people then they have to discuss this issue with the Tourism Ministry and Housing Ministry as soon as possible.

Dr.Waheed said the real democracy is to talk and make decisions and recently what we have seen were the results of not discussing with the concerned people. The President said he want the island  to get developed and make more people to inhabit in the island.

He also said that the government will try its best in getting the facilities which the people of Rinbudhoo want. He said very soon the electricity service of the island will be under the FENAKA cooperation limited.  Dr.Waheed said the government wants to make the harbor of Rinbudhoo but the government will start its work after discussion with the people of the island.

President Waheed met the people of the island after meeting the council members of the island. During the meeting he identified the problems the people of the island are facing. President Waheed said he could go to a resort or abroad for eid holidays. But he preferred to visit some of the islands because he want to know the wellbeing of the people of the country.
