Greenpeace flagship Rainbow Warrior
will visit Laamu Atoll, Maldives on 5th November

The Rainbow Warrior, the newest addition to the Greenpeace fleet, will visit Laamu Atoll in  Maldives, on 5th November 2012. The ship is currently engaged in an expedition across the Indian Ocean to listen to communities from the region, with the goal of empowering them to take greater ownership of their ocean resources by creating sustainable fisheries.

Launched in early September, the Indian Ocean expedition has already taken the Rainbow Warrior and her crew to South Africa, Mozambique, Mauritius and now Maldives.

“We are looking forward to engaging fishermen, business and civic leaders here in Maldives so that we can continue a positive dialogue about the future of the Indian Ocean and the millions of people dependent on it for food and jobs,” said Oliver Knowles, Greenpeace International oceans campaigner.

“There are many serious issues facing tuna fishing in the region – we hope that working together we can continue the process of building sustainable tuna fisheries that will serve Maldives for the future.”
