Auditor General and CSC differ on Finance Act issue

Auditor General and the Civil Service Commission has differed and criticized each other on the issue of Finance Act and Finance regulations.

Auditor General and senior officials of the Civil Service Commission strongly censured each other yesterday at the Public Accounts Committee of the Peoples’ Majlis.

The meeting with the Auditor General and officials of the Auditor General’s Office and senior officials of the Civil Service Commission was held by the Committee in order to consider concerning issues in the Special Audit Report of the Disaster Management Center.

The Auditor General questioned officials of the Civil Service Commission to assess the role of senior government officials in embezzlement of funds and has accused senior government officials and civil servants involved of gross negligence in the matter.

The difference of opinion occurred when the members of the committee started asking questions. Answering a question raised by MP Abdullah Yameen, CSC member Dr. Mohamed Latheef said that laws related to the state finance are made in such a way that it is difficult to take action considering everyone as a fraud. Dr. Latheef also noted that the laws constrict the services provided for the people.

Additionally issues were raised on the serious questions regarding the integrity and capability of those entrusted with spending public funds.
