Islamic Minister calls to pass the Qisas law as soon as
possible

Minister of Islamic Affairs, Sheikh Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has urged the members of the Peoples’ Majlis to pass the law on Qisas as soon as possible. He this in the Friday sermon last Friday at Masjid Mohamed Thakurufaanu alAuzam.
Sheikh Shaheem noted that the laws of Maldives should be made in accordance to the Islamic Sharia. He said that no laws should contravene the fundamentals of Islam.
Sheikh Shaheem called the members of the Peoples’ Majlis to pass administrative laws on the implementation of the Qisas rulings in accordance to the fundamental principles of Islamic jurisprudence. Sheikh also said that the authorities should not fear a people and should not hesitate to implement the penalties prescribed in the Islamic Sharia.
“It is not permissible to not implement the penalties prescribed in the Islamic Shariah on account of false excuses. Fear of what a powerful country might say, or fear of what some claimant groups of human rights activists might say are not permissible excuses to abandon the implementation of Shariah penalties. It is also not permissible to claim that these penalties are primitive and unfit for these times,” he said.
He said that the punishments and the principle of qisas – retribution are prescribed in the Islamic Shariah as a manifestation of divine justice. Sheikh Shaheem stressed that justice is the supreme purpose of the Shariah and therefore the implementation of the principles of qisas is the pinnacle of justice.
