Late Afrasheem’s family given highest honour in Majlis
At the Fifth Sitting of the Third Session of Majlis, a moment of remembrance and
prayers was observed to honour the life of late Dr. Afraasheem Ali, MP, who has
serviced as a Member of the Peoples’ Majlis. He was murdered on October 1, 2012
The Majlis acknowledged his wife Guraisha Mohamed and his 03 children, Ayoob Afraasheem, Rumaisha Afraasheem and Ayaash Afraasheem with gratitude. The acknowledgement was made under 19 (a) (12) of the Standing Orders.
All Members of Majlis joined with the mourning of the bereaved family of the late Dr. Afraasheem Ali, MP.
Speaker Abdulla Shahid, MP, paid his respects noting that; “Dr. Afrasheem distinguished himself in many ways, as a public servant, an accomplished scholar and as a soft-spoken person with a good sense of humour.”
The Speaker Shahid, MP, members represented in political parties as well as independent members conveyed condolences to the family of the late MP.
Members in Parliament today also voted in favour of endorsing the report on “Alleviating financial distress of the bereaved family of the late Dr. Afraasheem Ali, MP.” Majlis endorsed the ad-hoc committee’s report on the matter with 45 votes in favour. There were 3 abstentions, and no votes against.
Following review from the Committee a provision of MRF 62,500 is to be distributed between the wife and children of the late Dr. Afraasheem Ali,MP, to help cope with additional problems and costs the situation may cause. Health insurance is also granted to the bereaved family members.
Ahmed Amir, Chair of the Economic Affairs Committee and MP for Kuda Huvadhoo, presented to the floor, the committee’s conclusion on the Report.
Dr. Afraasheem Ali was elected to the Majlis in 2009 as the representative for Ungoofaaru Constituency. He remained in the position from 8 May 2009 to 1 October 2012.
