Nasheed didn’t doubt the court’s legitimacy when he requested to expedite his
case- Shifag
Fuvahmulaku constituency MP Shifag Mufeed has stated that it is clear from the statements of the former President Mohamed Nasheed that he did not doubt the legitimacy of Hulhumale’ Court when he requested the court to expedite his trial.
Shifag said that Nasheed stated this with conviction at MDP podium when the Prosecutor General sent the case against Nasheed to Hulhumale’ Court for prosecution.
“Nasheed said that he had requested Hulhumale’ Court to expedite the trial. This is a proof that he believed that the court was legitimate. He did not say then that the court is defunct. I cannot accept that Nasheed will request the court to speed up the trial if he doubts that the court is defunct,” he said.
Shifag said that it is absurd that ,when Nasheed received court summons for the start of the trial, the same Nasheed who requested the court to speed up the process later claimed that the trial was politically motivated and got his party to pass a declaration that the courts were defunct and that no member of the party would follow any court orders.
Shifag said that no sane person will accept Nasheed’s contradictions. He said that Nasheed raised doubts regarding the legitimacy of Hulhumale’ Court yesterday during the first hearing of the case after a month with no such doubts raised.
Shifag said that Nasheed is a very contradictory person and is known for his contradictory statements even during his rule.
