Those who plotted the murder of Dr. Afrasheem want to threaten Maldivian Islamic unity- Sheikh Imran

President of the Adhaalath Party, Sheikh Imran Abdullah has said that there is a lot of questions raised whether those who plotted the brutal murder of the late religious scholar and Ungoofaaru constituency MP Dr. Afrasheem Ali wanted to threaten the Islamic unity of the Maldives.

Sheikh Imran said that MP Dr. Afrasheem Ali had proposed to the Peoples’ Majlis perfect amendments to protect the Islamic unity and to ban freedom of apostasy and practicing other religions in the country. He said that question arises whether those behind the murder are those who could not digest this.

Sheikh Imran said that it is not correct to point the fingers at any people before the Police conclude their investigation of the case. He said that he does not want to make any judgments on any people before the Police reveal their final conclusion of the investigation. However, he said that despite this these questions still arises regarding the case.

Sheikh Imran raised worry that there now exists no member specialized in the Islamic Shariah in the Majlis who can defend the amendments proposed by the late MP.

Sheikh Imran also noted that there will always be difference of opinions of the scholars in some issues and that this is present even among the members of the scholars committee of the Adhaalath Party.

“Others will also have differences of opinions. However we do not have and should not have such grave differences that permit us to kill others,” he said.
