Fifth person arrested in relation to Afrasheem’s murder
Maldives Police Service (MPS) has revealed that they have arrested a fifth suspect in relation to Raa Ungoofaaru constituency Member of Peoples’ Majlis Dr. Afrasheem Ali’s murder case
Speaking to Media, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Hassan Habeeb at Police Headquarters this afternoon revealed that Maldives Police Service is conducting this investigation in the most professional manner possible and have met subsequent progress during the past day. He also affirmed that the perpetrators of this case will be apprehended soon.
ACP Habeeb said that the Police is now seeking foreign assistance in the investigation of the brutal murder of the late Islamic scholar MP Dr Afrasheem Ali.
Three men and a woman were earlier arrested in relation to the case. According to social media, the arrested woman is Mariyam Naifa, a leading activist of ex-President Nasheed’s party, Maldives Democratic Party. A second suspect arrested in connection with the murder is identified as MDP Activist Ali Hashim (Smith) in social media reports.
