Former President Challenges his cases:
My name will be on the ballot paper and that’s my first promise- Nasheed
Former President Mohamed Nasheed has said that his name will be on the ballot paper of the Presidential Election to be held next year and that this is his first promise this time. He said this at the campaign rally of the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) held at Ga. Villingili last night.
“I would like to assure you that in the 2013 Presidential Election my name will be on the ballot paper for you to vote. This is my first promise this time. Hopefully this promise will be fulfilled by the Maldivian Democratic Party,” he said.
Nasheed said that a people tried to obstruct him from participating in the 2008 elections. He said that some people filed charges against him in the Supreme Court to achieve this agenda.
“Authority and power is granted by God and it is not granted by Jameel, Shareef, Adam or others. We slaves can only work,” he said.
Nasheed expressed confidence to grant good governance to the people. He said that there are many aims and development projects of the MDP in the five years of the next presidency.
Nasheed said that in a democratic government democracy is establishing the rule of the people. He said that the need and want of the people should be clarified in a democracy. He said that protecting the religion of Islam is from the main need of the people of Maldives.
