Tourism Minister concerned over false news spread in international media
Minister of Tourism Ahmed Adeeb has raised concern over the change of the perception on Maldives by some countries because of the spread of false news regarding the situation of Maldives in wake of the political disturbance in the country.
Speaking about the challenges faced by the now four year old industry, Adeeb said that because of the false news spread about the situation of the Maldives has resulted in a decline in tourists from Europe.
Adeeb said that the ministry has to make a lot of effort to promote Maldives and prove to the world that these news are lies and exaggeration of the situation.
“Now our tourism industry is depending on China. Ministry has now taken initiatives to resolve these issues,” he said.
The Minister said that tourism started off in the Maldives in a mundane fashion and the quality and status this industry has reached today is the result of the tireless endeavours of many people.
“It gives me lots of pleasure to thank all who contributed to the tourism industry from the investors who trusted in our industry and invested in it and those others who diligently strived for its development and progress,” he said.
